jne: Paul did not himself choose to be a servant of Christ Jesus. Neither did he choose to be an apostle. God called him. Paul wrote Romans, not to people who chose to follow Jesus, but to those God called to belong to Him, to be His saints. It may feel like we do the choosing when we say "yes" to God's invitation to follow Him, but this verse and many others in the Bible declare that it is God who does the calling and we do the receiving. This is why all the thanks and all the praise goes to God not to ourselves. -173
